"Dark Skin
Sin"
I've been very open about my journey healing the racism I internalized and carried with me for years, a silent dagger twisting itself into my heart. I made this video in 2022, shortly after moving to my tiny, predominately white Rust Belt town. Three years later I can confirm: healing can happen when we open our hearts and dare ourselves to heal.
"The
Black is
Beautiful
Rock"
I am so very proud of this creation. In 2011, when I was a senior in high school, Keri Hilson's "Pretty Girl Rock" was the soundtrack to my many early morning runs, giving me the strength I needed to imagine a world in which I, too, could be confident and pretty (you know the internalized racism really got me). With this creation, I sought to help others see themselves, and each other, as beautiful.
"Sending On"
I made this song in 15 minutes, during a "Black Woman's Writing" group I found on Eventbrite. The video was inspired by my deliverymen who, at the time, were so swarmed with holiday orders they basically threw the packages at the doors so they could get all their work done. This was my way of saying thank you.
